CHANELE KEMPLER
During her decades of studio practice, Kempler (1930-1994) meditated on the essence of survival and the concept of healing . Kempler’s works include oil paintings and frequently scraperboard, a demanding medium to create colorful, enigmatic imagery. Expanding on the movements of Expressionist, Surrealist, Abstract and Op-Art, Kempler involved a critical, open dialogue with concentration camps. Her interest lies in representing the remembrance of the forgotten.
Born in Dej, Romania from an artistic Hasidic family, Kempler immigrated to Montreal, Canada where she had her first solo exhibition in 1964. Her work has been exhibited in public spaces and galleries in New York, Paris and Montreal. The artist's estate is represented by Bleier & Co, New York.
